BIRTHDAY SHOW TONIGHT- JB and I will be ripping it up with the full band at the Talkhouse tonight, Saturday 4/20. Two weeks ago, on April 1st, we lost my Pop, Louis

Two weeks ago, on April 1st, we lost my Pop, Louis Veprek. He was 86 and lived an amazing life. He was a brilliant engineer at Grumman and growing up I honestly thought my Dad was the smartest man in the world. A master of Metallurgy, he worked on lunar modules, F 14 Tomcat, and also studied why a plane part would fail and then set on redesigning it. At 55, he retired and became a commercial fisherman, following his passion and true love of the sea. I wrote a much longer passage on Facebook last week but it was too many words for Instagram so for now, I am just going to leave you with this photo instead. It's of his little skiff that he loved so much. He named her OOOPSI or properly written out OOO P.S.I and on the other side P_ Free. As some of you already know, those mathematical terms stand for Zero Pressure/Stress-Free. That is what Pop felt on the water and I will forever remember being on my own boat three years ago and seeing a madman zip across Gardiners Bay with his flannel in the wind. He was cranking, heading off to catch a tide. When the boat, got closer we realized it was my 83-year-old father who had snuck out on his beloved OOPSIE for a cruise. He looked like he was 12. Anyway, there is a lot more to say about him but on this stunning April day, I decided to just put it out there as a reminder to cherish the things that make us feel zero pressure and stress-free. X N Lastly he was married to my mom for 65 years and asked for no funeral or wake. We honored his wishes and will let those who knew him about his celebration of life party in the future.

I love magnolias. I really do. I also love playing live music but sometimes, rarely, three times in 28 years to be exact, something happens in life where you suddenly realize you cannot play a show. So tomorrow, my full band (Johnny, Joe, Denny and Greg) will still play the Stephen Talkhouse with Mike Mazzataco and Rose Lawler sitting in, but sadly I will have to see you all on April 20th. Thank you ahead of time for understanding and I am wishing you all love and light this Easter. I am apologize for the short notice but promise that the Band will crush it tomorrow night. When the chips are down they always rise up and deliver.
